Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a childhood condition where there is a motor disability caused by injury to the brain. Each year about 8000 infants are diagnosed with CP. According to the United Cerebral Palsy Association approximately 70% of cerebral palsy cases are due to brain injury in utero, 20% occur during birth and 10% of children acquire the condition after birth due to such things as bacterial meningitis, head trauma, child abuse, severe jaundice and viral encephalitis.

The level of impairment that a child with Cerebral Palsy can have varies from mild, moderate to severe. A child with moderate to severe Cerebral Palsy often requires extensive medical and rehabilitative care and nursing or attendant care during the school day or care at home while parents are working. Parents often struggle to identify the different options for funding for their child with significant medical needs.
