A child suffered an amputation as the result of a defective escalator. The child's pant leg was caught in the escalator, causing the amputation. Investigation revealed that the manufacturer of the escalator knew of problems with the escalator but failed to recall the product or notify the purchasers of the equipment.

All traumatic amputations should be promptly investigated to determine whether or not a claim should be filed. In many cases, the Consumer Product Safety Commission will recall defective equipment and save countless other children from sustaining similar injuries.
